But - you can only get so far in Blender in certain tasks before you hit a wall. ![]() On the surface, both look just as capable. Now all that being said, I can't agree with u/spiraldinosaur where they say "there's no difference between Blender and C4D". (I'm not sure if Cycles is both GPU and CPU in Blender, I imagine it is because it is in C4D) Even the render engine Cycles is free and comes with an IPR for quick feedback and look/dev. Once you know those you can transition to any package and be comfortable pretty quickly (except perhaps Lightwave - yes, it still exists and I'm still scratching my head) And you can learn all those concepts for free inside Blender. Character animation in Blender or C4D? You can but there's a better choice) If it can be done but its just so hard, would a different package be a better choice? (Modelling in Houdini? You can but there's a better choice. While most packages can do most things, there is the pain of it that can sway your decision. Some will come up short in some tasks and some in others but these can't-get-there-from-here tasks are usually edge of the cliff stuff and even then there are usually 3rd party software plugs ins that can fill in the gaps. It has come a long way so before discounting it have a look at Ian Hubberts work done in blender. I'm not sure anyone knows what Blender's sweet spot is yet other than the obvious: it's free. C4D's is motion graphics (although it is perfectly capable of doing high end film animation and FX etc but the industry still leans toward Maya and Houdini, with good reason). Image InfoĮvery package has it's sweet spot. If you have feedback on the subreddit theme, feel free to send /u/Cryptonaut a message. The traffic stats for /r/Cinema4D are also publically available.
